An integral part of any digital rights management (DRM) system is the unique identification and description of the content it is managing. Without this, digital content cannot be managed by the businesses in the value chain, or found and evaluated by consumers. Unique identifiers enable a digital item from one class to be differentiated from another digital item in the same class. For effective DRM, the unique identifier must be associated with a description of the digital item, using metadata, which is a structured set of elements that provide information about that digital item. Unique identification and description of any digital content is an absolute requirement for profitable online trading.
Rightscom develops practical approaches to the design of metadata and identification systems to support the trading of content and rights through the digital network. We also develop messaging specifications that are needed to automate the business-to-business communication of the critical data which enables the management of digital content and rights. Rightscom has worked to develop cross industry consensus to achieve interoperability of identification systems and rights metadata. We also work with individual companies to define their identification and description requirements, and design technical architecture solutions. |
